Building a skincare routine

Building a  simple skincare routine starts with the basics. From there it can be tailored to individual needs, addressing specific skin concerns like pigmentation, fine lines, dull, dehydrated skin, texture, tone etc and this is where greatskindays comes in!

Without going in to specific products or brands here is a daily routine to follow:

Morning Routine:

  1. Cleanser: Start your day with a gentle cleanser suitable for your skin type to remove any impurities, oil and sweat accumulated overnight from your pillow, hair & hands.

  2. Moisturiser: Follow up with a lightweight moisturizer formulated for your skin type to hydrate and protect your skin throughout the day.

  3. SPF: Apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30 to protect your skin from harmful UV rays. This step is crucial in preventing premature aging and reducing the risk of skin cancer.

Evening Routine:

  1. Double Cleanse: Begin by using an oil-based cleanser to remove makeup, spf and excess oil. Follow up with a water-based cleanser to effectively cleanse the skin without stripping its natural oils.

  2. Moisturiser: Apply a moisturiser to replenish moisture and repair the skin's barrier overnight.

Additional Treatments:

  1. Retinol Serum: Incorporate a retinol serum into your nighttime routine to address fine lines, wrinkles and uneven skin tone. Start with a lower concentration and gradually increase frequency as your skin adjusts and when ready increasing the % of formula.

  2. Hyaluronic Acid Serum: Using a hyaluronic acid serum can hydrate and plump the skin, particularly if you struggle with dryness or dehydration. Apply it after your cleanse on damp skin before your moisturiser to lock in moisture.

  3. Vitamin C Serum: Incorporate a vitamin C serum into your morning routine to brighten the skin, even out complexion and protect against environmental damage. It also boosts collagen production for firmer, more youthful-looking skin.

Weekly Treatments:

  1. Exfoliation: Include a gentle exfoliating treatment once or twice a week to remove dead skin cells and promote cell turnover. This can be in the form of a chemical exfoliant like AHAs for example glycolic, lactic etc or BHAs, salicylic acid depending on your skin's needs and sensitivity.

There are a number of additional serums, vitamins, masks, oils, mists that can be used to enhance your skins health and address any skin concerns. It is important to patch test any new products and introduce them gradually into your routine to minimise the risk of irritation or adverse reactions.

Consistency is key for seeing results, so stick to your skincare routine diligently!
